Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Overview

The Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare is responsible for formulating policies and programs for agriculture, fisheries, and farmer welfare in India.

Departments / Wings

Important Central Government Schemes

1. Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN)

2. Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY)

Crop insurance scheme that protects farmers against crop loss due to natural disasters and stabilizes farm incomes.

3. Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY)

Aims for "Har Khet Ko Pani" by expanding irrigation coverage and efficient water use.

4. Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha Evam Utthan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM)

Encourages farmers to install solar pumps and generate energy, reducing diesel costs and increasing income.

5. Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF)

Provides low-interest credit for building storage, processing, and value chain facilities to reduce losses and increase earnings.

6. Modified Interest Subvention Scheme (MISS)

Reduces interest on short-term agriculture loans (through KCC) making agri-credit cheaper.

7. Market Intervention Scheme and Price Support Scheme

Ensures farmers get minimum support price or price protection for certain crops when markets are weak.

8. National Mission and Crop Development Programs
